Between the Aniene River and the western slopes of the Prenestini Mountains, there is a remarkable archaeological density due to the remains of villas and the four public aqueducts of ancient Rome that descend from the middle valley of the Aniene (Anio vetus, 272 BC; Aqua Marcia, 144 BC; Aqua Claudia and Anio novus, 38-52 AD). The conduits run underground, emerging with bridges only when crossing ditches.
