Boattieri’s route

A historical journey through cultivated fields and ancient traditions

From Zagarolo to Labico, through the fertile Prenestina countryside, lies the Percorso dei Boattieri, a route that recounts the centuries-old bond between the two communities and the agricultural activity carried out outside the territory of Lugnano (the ancient name of Labico) by its “Boattieri”, the caste dedicated to cultivating their own or others’ land.

The route winds through a peaceful valley floor, between cultivated fields and the cool shelter of hazelnut and walnut groves, following a flat path parallel to today’s Via Casilina. Along the path, partly bordered by ancient dry stone walls, traces of a rural past dating back to at least the 16th century can still be seen.

A journey through time, history, nature and tradition, discovering a landscape that preserves the charm of the Lazio countryside intact.
